Mwanga Afrika Cables (Pty) Ltd is a proudly South African black owned enterprise specializing in the design, manufacturing, and supply of the wide range of low, medium and high voltage electric power cable and wire products of high quality and international standards. “Mwanga” means “Light” in Swahili language and the name is aligned to the company’s vision which is to bring sustainable energy and light up the African continent.


The company is owned by a wholly black Azania Holamazwe Consortium and South Ocean Electric Wire Company (Pty) Ltd, a renowned low voltage electric power cable manufacturer and a subsidiary of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed company, South Ocean Holdings Ltd.



Mwanga Afrika Cables is currently headquartered in Elandsfontein industrial hub, in the City of Ekurhuleni, Gauteng province. The company is in the process of building its own modern state of the art manufacturing facility in the Dube Tradeport Special Economic Zone in Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal Province.

Mwanga Afrika Cables offers a range of electric power cable including the medium voltage cross linked polyethylene cable (XLPE); Paper-Insulated cable (PILC); Aerial Bundled Conductor (ABC), Overhead Aluminium Conductors (ACSR) and related products and accessories. The company is the third South African power cable manufacturer to design, manufacture and supply High Voltage XLPE insulated cable and the first black owned company to manufacture this cable.


The new facility is a 58 893m2 facility which has a production capacity of 3,000km of cables ranging from 95mm2 to 2,000mm2, using copper and aluminium conductors.


As part of its local and regional expansion plan, Mwanga Afrika Cables has established local distribution hubs in Gauteng, Eastern Cape and Limpopo province. The company has operations in the East Africa with a Distribution Centre in Nairobi, Republic of Kenya which service the East and Central African markets.


Ownership Structure


Mwanga is owned by Azania Holamazwe Consortium [70%], a 100% black owned entity, and South Ocean Electric Wire Company (Pty) Ltd [30%] , a subsidiary of the JSE listed company, South Ocean Holdings Ltd.


South Ocean Electric Wire Company (Pty) Ltd (SOEW) was established in 1989 and is a subsidiary of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) listed company, South Ocean Holdings Ltd. SOEW currently operates an electrical cable manufacturing plant in Alrode, Alberton, South Africa.
